The Yesha Council has "fired" Likud MK Yechiel Chazan as head of the Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza) forum in the Knesset. Council head Bentzy Lieberman sent Chazan a letter informing him that the Council no longer sees him as worthy of leading the unofficial group. Chazan voted in favor of the government in Sunday's no-confidence motion filed by the National Union party regarding the Prime Minister's unilateral withdrawal plan. This, despite the fact that the other Likud MKs working to thwart the plan walked out or abstained during the vote.

The Knesset Members of the Yesha lobby are expected to select a new MK to head their activities in the coming days.

Chazan was chosen as the Likud's Yesha representative on the list of candidates running for Knesset before the last national election, beating out Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership) head Moshe Feiglin. Chazan was therefore granted the 32nd slot on the Likud list, while Feiglin was relegated to approximately 42 (before being disqualified altogether on "technical" grounds). The Likud list won 38 seats in the last election.

Chazan told Arutz-7 yesterday that despite his declaration of two weeks ago that the Prime Minister must and could be toppled, he will no longer vote against Sharon on future no-confidence votes. MK Ehud Yatom and others accused Chazan of having received promises from Sharon in exchange for his sudden change-of-mind.
