It was not noted at today's Cabinet meeting that August 14, 2005 - the last day on which Jewish citizens will be permitted to enter Gaza, according to the expulsion timetable released last week - is the 9th day of the Jewish month of Av. This day, known as Tisha B'Av, is the Jewish People's national day of mourning, marking the destruction of both Holy Temples and several other major calamities in Jewish history.

Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz told his Cabinet colleagues today that two major terrorist attacks had been thwarted in the past few days. One of them was to be a three-pronged affair in Gaza, involving a car bomb, followed by shooting and grenades, followed by a suicide bomber exploding amidst the medical personnel treating those wounded in the first two stages. The other attack was scheduled to take place on Friday in a crowded area of Jerusalem. The terrorists were arrested.
