Fairfax County, Virginia, will set up a representative office in Israel in July, reports Globes, Israel's financial newspaper.
The office, the first for any US county, will be located in Tel Aviv and headed by Ronen Kenan. Mr. Kenan is the head of On Target Technologies, providing business development and facilitation services to Israel-based high-tech companies.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority is seeking to attract Israeli companies that want to set up US-based offices for marketing or expansion. In particular, the Authority's president told Globes, in the field of security technology, noting the county's proximity to the US government's Department of Homeland Security.
There are over 4,000 high-tech companies in Fairfax, encompassing a wide array ..of sectors, 40 universities within close proximity, and 31 venture capital offices in Fairfax County. Local VCs invested approximately $1.25 billion in companies with local offices in 2000.
