Commander Mickey Levy, who heads the Jerusalem police district, stated with confidence that the medium size bomb that was detonated during the early morning hours today was intended to coincide with the Monday night opening ceremony of the 16th Maccabiah Games. The Maccabiah Games will host some 3,000 athletes, two-thirds of whom are from the Diaspora. It is the largest international Jewish sporting event in the world.
Shortly after 1:30am, an explosion was heard in the Katamonim neighborhood of the capital. Police report the exact location of the bomb blast was in the Talpiot industrial zone near the Pat Bridge. Commander Levy stated that it is apparent the bomb being placed at that location was intended for the persons making their way to the Monday night opening ceremony of the 16th Maccabiah Games being hosted at nearby Teddy Stadium. The bomb detonated prematurely while the terrorists were working, killing them both. Police report they have established the identities of the dead terrorists, 19 and 21-year-old Bethlehem residents.
Police remain on a heightened state of alert, working in unison with other agencies including the GSS (General Security Service – Shin/Bet). The intelligence community continues to report that terrorists are exerting an unprecedented effort to perpetrate an attack at this time, adding the Maccabiah Games is undoubtedly among the more desirable targets. Other public and sensitive areas continue to receive special attention from police as well including but not limited to Ben-Gurion International Airport. As has been reported repeatedly during the past week, all persons and vehicles entering the airport are being scrutinized and travelers are advised to permit additional time when heading to the airport to accommodate the stringent security precautions. Preflight delays of up to four hours have been reported during the past week as a result of the new security restrictions.
The Oslo War continued elsewhere during the night as well. The greater Hevron/Kiryat Arba communities were bombarded with another night of terrorist gunfire. Shooting was reported in all areas, from Harsina in Kiryat Arba to the Tomb of Ruth in the Admat Yishai neighborhood of Hevron.
Hevron leaders report that although soldiers did return fire, they are not being ordered to retake the areas given away to the PA in the Hevron Agreement by the Netanyahu administration, permitting the terrorists to maintain the vantage point and continue shooting down on Hevron’s Jewish population.
North of Hevron, near the Halhoul Bridge, soldiers last night were attacked by terrorist gunfire.
Shooting was also reported south of Hevron in the Southern Hevron Hills region.
In the Shomron, shooting was reported in the Ramallah area, in the Benjamin Regional Council District.
Gaza saw another night of fragmentation and anti-tank grenades. Soldiers came under fire in southern Gaza on several occasions.
Miraculously, there were no injuries in the attacks.
