Prime Minister Sharon has often explained that the purpose of his withdrawal plan to end the "damaging freeze" in progress inherent in the current situation, and to head off international pressure for even more Israeli concessions. A Jordanian government statement today indicated the weak grounds on which this assumption lies. Israel's eastern neighbor holds that even Sharon's most far-reaching withdrawal plan is not sufficient, saying that Israel must withdraw from absolutely all of Gaza, including all the border crossings and entry points. The Jordanian statement also said that the withdrawal from Gaza must be a "first step," one that will lead to a full Israeli retreat from all of Judea and Samaria.
