On Saturday, soldiers discovered a weapons smuggling tunnel and a 40kg bomb. The tunnel was hastily covered over with concrete in recent days by smugglers, but IDF soldiers managed to locate it and destroy it nonetheless. There were no injuries to IDF troops.
Although the numbers of troops operating in Rafiach appears to be lessened, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Moshe Ya'alon said, "Rafiach is a gateway for terrorism, and it must be blocked." When asked by Channel 1 Israel television reporters how much longer the Rafiach operation would last, Lt. Gen. Yaalon said dryly, "It will continue until it is completed."
