A group of residents from Karnei Shomron were prevented Saturday night from demonstrating across from the home of Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz. The convoy of vehicles was held up at the entrance to the minister's home town, which straddles the pre-1967 Green Line.
According to one of the Karnei Shomron activists, a letter was sent last week to Mr. Mofaz in which residents asked for a meeting in the wake of terrorist sniping in their region. "He was unwilling to meet with us," the resident said, "so we decided to take a series of actions."
Beyond their immediate concerns, the Karnei Shomron resident said, "We will put an end to this leftist plan - to give them guns, to lock us up behind fences and shoot us like sitting ducks. We will not be sitting ducks behind fences like in Gush Katif, with 4,000 mortars landing on us."
In a different demonstration, which was allowed to take place, on Friday, 16 police officers were injured in scuffles with members of extreme left-wing organizations at the Kissufim Crossing into Gaza. Other far-left demonstrations against the IDF took place in Haifa and at Gaza's Sufah Crossing.

Representing organizations such as Taayush, Yesh Gvul, Gush Shalom and others, the protestors carried black flags, called for IDF soldiers to refuse orders and described IDF counter-terrorism operations as "war crimes". INN eyewitness reports described signs bearing the text "Sharon, Mofaz - Murderers". Police say they filmed the demonstration and that any incitement will be handled accordingly.
On Saturday night, a protest demonstration demanding the release of administrative detainee Noam Federman was held outside the Shikmah Prison in Ashkelon. Among the protesters was Elisheva Federman, Noam's wife, who requested that she be permitted to visit the home of the head of the Shin Bet to discuss her husband's case with him. Security forces declined the request.
Mrs. Federman stressed that if brought before a court of law, Noam would undoubtedly be released and there was no justification for his continued incarceration. He has already been in administration detention without charges for over eight months.
