The "Our Likud" task force, which led the recent struggle against Prime Minister Sharon's disengagement plan, will convene on Sunday in Rishon LeTzion. Representatives from around the country will meet in the shadow of reports that Sharon is preparing to push ahead with a plan that is nearly identical to that which was defeated in the Likud referendum.
Chief among the minor changes to be introduced is the timetable: instead of the withdrawal from 21 Gaza communities and four more in northern Shomron taking place all at once, it will rather be scheduled to take place in three or four stages.
The participants at the meeting will call on all Likud ministers to honor the recent decision made by the party membership. Some 100,000 Likud members voted on May 2, by a 60-40 margin, against the unilateral withdrawal/expulsion plan.
Maariv reports today that Sharon has succeeded in persuading Ministers Netanyahu, Shalom and Livnat to support his new plan. If this report is true, the staged disengagement will have the required majority in the Cabinet, despite the opposition of the National Union, National Religious Party, and many in the Likud itself.
