President Moshe Katzav and his wife paid a condolence visit to the family of Sgt. Zohar Smeilov in Ofakim last night. Zohar was one of five soldiers killed in the attack on the second armed personnel carrier in Gaza last week. Defense Minister Mofaz was also there last night, and he and Katzav listened to Zohar's officers tell of his special personality. The mourning mother said that her son had concealed from her the fact that he was a combat soldier. President Katzav told reporters afterwards, "Arafat has brought catastrophe on the Palestinians, and prevents every effort to stop the terrorism. Just this week his advisors asked him to do something to stop terrorism, but he refused." Katzav said that despite the large pro-withdrawal rally on Saturday night, "my estimation is that most of the public wants a withdrawal only by agreement, and not in a unilateral manner."
