A delegation of 20 business and agricultural research leaders, headed by Australian Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Warren Truss, was in Israel earlier this month to visit farms in the Negev.
The delegation was invited by the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council, under the sponsorship of the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Globes financial newspaper reported.
The delegates came here to learn about Israel's achievements in developing agriculture in desert conditions, how Israelis "make the Negev bloom". The group also explored Australian cooperation in desert agribusiness with Negev communities. Other joint agricultural projects are also under discussion by a group of Negev farmers and agricultural businesspeople.
The Israel Trade Commission office in Sydney, Australia, says of Israeli agribusiness, "Israeli agricultural companies export more than simply their products - they also export their experience and services, which allows for the necessary flexible approach. As the Australian economy is very much focused on agriculture, and exporting its grains, livestock etc, they can gain much from Israeli agricultural technology."
