Prime Minister Sharon paid a condolence visit to David Hatuel and the family of his wife Tali in Ashkelon on Friday. Tali Hatuel, who was pregnant with a boy, and the couple's four daughters were systematically shot and killed from point-blank range by Palestinian terrorists a week ago as they were driving out of Gush Katif.
In response to questions on the topic, the Prime Minister explained that, "with all the sorrow involved, Gush Katif must be evacuated... There are 1.2 million [Arabs] in the Gaza Strip, and we can no longer live amongst them and take care of them. I used to think differently, but we can no longer speak in slogans." Asked about the top IDF generals who said that such a retreat would encourage terrorism, Sharon said, "They were mistaken. I'm not responsible for those who say one thing one day and something else the next day."
