Jerusalem police have called off their investigation of Prof. Ze\'ev Sternhal for what complainants said was his \"incitement to murder Jews of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.\" On May 11, Sternhal wrote in Ha\'aretz, \"There is no doubt regarding the legitimacy of the armed resistance in the territories themselves [as opposed to the other side of the Green Line]. If the Palestinians had a bit of sense, they would concentrate their struggle against the settlements... They would similarly refrain from placing explosive charges on the western side of the Green Line.\" The police informed Women in Green, one of the complainants, that \"there is no criminal guilt\" in Sternhal\'s statements.
Rabbi Avi Gisser of Ofrah, one of those who filed the complaint, has scorn for the police decision, saying that they render Sternhal\'s statements \"within the framework of freedom of expression, not incitement to murder, not identification with the PA\'s goals, and nothing more than a gentle hint to the PA that its methods are not serving its interests.\" Rabbi Gisser, speaking with Arutz-7, continued, \"The State Prosecution has inverted its function and has become a \'public defender\' for Sternhal - even though his entire article lays the groundwork for the PA\'s war. The police say it\'s not incitement, but only \'advice.\'\" Rabbi Gisser said that he will probably appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, \"even though we don\'t have much hope, but it\'s good to hear the Supreme Court try to \'split hairs\' once again in its differentiation between blood and blood.\"
The Women in Green movement, for its part, said it \"is stunned by the [decision] that basically permits the calling for the murder of the Jewish residents of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza. We appeal to Minister Uzi Landau, who is in charge of the police, and ask: \'Do you, too, agree with this approach?\'\"
