His order also recommends proceeding with alacrity in the dismantling of those outposts named in earlier government decisions. Added to the list of outposts scheduled to be removed are Givat Assaf (near Ofrah in the Shomron), Givat HaDekel (near Karnei Shomron in the Shomron) and one near Neguhot in the Hevron Hills.

According to the Yediot Aharonot newspaper, the decision to move ahead with uprooting outposts is a result of American pressure on the Prime Minister. The daily said that the US Administration is demanding to see, by next Friday, a detailed Israeli plan to demolish all unauthorized outposts and to remove military checkpoints in Judea and Samaria.

In talks yesterday with the king of Jordan, Abdullah II, US Secretary of State Colin Powell reiterated his belief that Prime Minister Sharon's plan to uproot Jewish communities from "occupied territories", in his words, will go ahead, and that it represents the best chance for the establishment of a Palestinian State.

The Americans are also pressuring the PLO - but only as regards the murder of official American representatives in Gaza. The US has frozen funds earmarked for the Palestinian Authority - including funds directed to water infrastructure development in Gaza - because of the failure of the PA to arrest and prosecute terrorists who attacked an American embassy convoy in Gaza in 2003. Three American security guards were killed in the attack.
