A lunar eclipse will be visible in Israel tonight, beginning at 9:48 PM. The eclipse will be total from approximately an hour afterwards until shortly after midnight. The last lunar eclipses visible in Israel occurred in May and November 2003.

People in most of Africa and central Asia will be able to witness the entire eclipse, while those in North America will see none of it. A lunar eclipse is not a rare phenomenon; it occurs when the Earth lines up in between the sun and the moon, thus blocking the passage of sunlight to the moon. The moon won't be completely blacked out, however, because some of the light will be "bent" into the shadow. Instead, depending on the amount of dust in the atmosphere, it will appear to be brown, brownish-red, or orange-yellow.
