A potentially catastrophic terrorist attack was thwarted in downtown Afula today, thanks to alert police activity. An Arab man walking around with a heavy pack aroused the suspicions of three policemen; they surrounded him and prevented him from detonating the large bomb he was in fact carrying. The would-be suicide killer is a resident of the PA city of Jenin.

Palestinians shot at an Israeli car outside Elon Moreh today; bullets hit the car, but no one was hurt... In the nearby Arab village of Dir el Hatab, a large explosion was heard - caused, according to IDF sources, by a terrorist \"work accident.\" The powerful explosive, which was to be set off by remote control, made a foot-deep hole... Arabs fired a particularly large mortar rocket last night at Jewish homes in Kibbutz Nachal Oz, south of Ashkelon. It was discovered to be a 135mm shell, with a range of several kilometers… Shots were fired at a southern Gaza IDF outpost… A roadside bomb was discovered on the Tunnels Highway connecting Jerusalem and Gush Etzion; the road was closed for two hours while the bomb was dismantled… Arabs threw rocks at Israelis inside and outside the Old City of Jerusalem last night; no one was hurt…

Arabs in Rafiach again threw grenades at a nearby IDF outpost last night; no one was hurt. MK Tzvi Hendel told Arutz-7 yesterday that the area is a favorite target for such attacks for two reasons: \"It is convenient; they want to kill, and this is an easy target, since they can easily run back into the town of Rafiach… In addition, they wish to preserve their arms-smuggling tunnels from Egypt - although this is far from their only source; they have many ways to smuggle arms and weapons, including by sea.\"

Another Arab informant was murdered this morning in the Kalkilyeh area. Zaher Husni \'Asaf, 30, was shot several times by the killers, who then ran away. The victim was recently arrested by PA agents on charges of informing for Israel, but was released.
