Thousands of volunteers from all over Judea, Samaria and Gaza continued last night and today to visit the homes of Likud members throughout the country, explaining to them the negative aspects of the evacuation/expulsion plan. Poll results published today indicate that personal meetings with representatives have helped changed the minds of many Likud members who originally supported the plan.
Well-known educator Yonah Goodman of Ofrah wrote in HaTzofeh newspaper today about what the campaign has already accomplished:
Sometime this past week, it happened. Thousands of people finally realized what was going on, and began to take action.
Convoys of cars left for Netanya from the community of Eli in the Shomron, groups from Ofrah made their way to Holon, and people from other Yesha towns descended upon other cities throughout Israel.
The precious Gush Katif people continued to plow the land, and discovered that they were not alone. It's not their private problem. Even the city people took part in the action - from members of the Torah "outreach groups" to veteran city dwellers. Each person in his own town, and all of us together.
This is a genuine struggle of the "common folks" - despite the official government institutions and the media - on behalf of both the land and the people. On behalf of the truth, and the future. Ours and our children's.
It's often said that only the youth go out to the demonstrations and to give out stickers at the intersections. But this week, it was only the adults - thousands of them, from all over. People who gave hours of their time and who invested their energies each evening, knocking on doors and opening hearts.
We discovered this week that there is a real chance to win not only in the long run, but even the current campaign.
We discovered this week once again the good and the beautiful within us. We shook off the dust, we renewed ourselves, we got out. We cooperated amongst ourselves in harmony in a way that we have long not seen. We saw that many thousands are marching upwards together with us.
With faith, we will win.
