A Yediot Acharonot headline today reads, "The European Union and Blair Also Support the Disengagement Plan." Only when one reads deep into the article is one informed that at the same time, the EU Foreign Ministers reject the Bush letter - because it implies support for Israel's retention of settlement blocs. Given the fact that critical support for the disengagement plan, such as that of Binyamin Netanyahu and even possibly of Sharon himself, was obtained only because it came together with this letter, it emerges that the EU supports the plan in opposition to Israeli interests - i.e., only insofar as it provides no guarantees regarding any other part of Judea and Samaria.

The European Union has also condemned Israel's killing of arch-terrorist Abdel Aziz Rantisi, saying the action is in violation of international law.
