The players of Hapoel Jerusalem returned home April 14 to celebrations from the airport to the Safra Square in the capital, as thousands turned out to cheer the new basketball champions of Euroleague B (ULEB). There was red - the team color - everywhere this week.

Hapoel Jerusalem beat heavily favored Real Madrid 83:72 to take home the ULEB cup. The game was held in the Spiroudome in Charleroi, Belgium on April 13 and was attended by approximately 2,000 Israeli fans.

Aside from making history for the Jerusalem club, the victory also places Hapoel Jerusalem in the Euroleague (A) for next season, where they will represent Israel along with Maccabi Tel Aviv. It also represents only the second European championship win for an Israeli team (the previous champs being Maccabi Tel Aviv).

The team was led by Kelly McCarty, Will Solomon and Doron Sheffer, with McCarty selected as MVP for 22 points during the game.
