Now that the Passover holiday has thankfully passed without major incident, it can be detailed that Israel's security forces prevented no fewer than ten serious terror attacks planned for the weeklong holiday.
Among the attempted Palestinian terror attacks were a biological bomb including AIDS-infected blood that was to be detonated in Tel Aviv on the eve of the holiday. The Fatah cell planning the attack was apprehended before it could construct the extra-dangerous bomb. Medical experts said, however, that the chances of actually contracting AIDS in such an attack were small, as the infected blood would have to not merely strike a person, but enter his body - and that in any event, special medication administered within 72 hours could prevent the disease from spreading within the body.
Other thwarted attacks were to have been perpetrated in the form of a bomb inside a donkey carcass, and an infiltration into the Shomron community of Emanuel or its approach road. As reported last week, Fatah and Islamic Jihad terrorists planned a triple suicide bombing attack on Passover eve - but were apprehended en route. One of the terrorists in custody told interrogators that three terrorists disguised as IDF soldiers planned to enter Israel from Sinai, blow up in different populated areas, and cause as many deaths as possible.
In addition, Islamic Jihad terrorists were apprehended as they traveled from Gaza to Egypt, from where they planned to re-enter Israel and perpetrate a shooting-and-grenade attack in Tel Aviv or Be'er Sheva. Other arrested terrorists included a 16-year-old suicide bomber wearing a 25-kilogram bomb vest and at least two females who planned to commit suicide attacks intended to "cleanse" them of their immoral behavior. The two admitted that they were recently caught having illicit sexual relations. Intelligence community officials warn that terrorist motivation to commit attacks remains extremely high, and police readiness will remain on high alert for the coming holidays of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.
This morning, IDF bomb demolition technicians were summoned to the Kissufim Crossing area of Gaza to neutralize two explosives discovered there. Palestinian terrorists fired this afternoon at a passenger bus traveling in the northern Shomron near Hermesh and Sa-Nur; a soldier was lightly wounded by shrapnel in the attack.
