Israeli start-up companies in the high-tech sector have been repeatedly recognized internationally for their innovation and potential. Now, several Israeli start-ups have also received recognition at home.

Last month, three Israeli start-ups were recognized as being among VentureWire's ten most promising data communications start-ups. 72 companies were in the running for the Investors' Choice award, announced at the VentureWire Network Outlook 2004 conference. Over 300 venture capital fund and private equity investors judged the ten selected start-ups most likely to succeed. The three Israeli start-ups were the only non-American award recipients, Globes financial newspaper reported.

The Israeli winners were Actelis Networks, BitBand and P-Cube.

Back at home, the Israel Venture Association (IVA) selected the top four start-ups at the Israel Start-Up Show Competition, held this month at IVA's annual hi-tech conference in Tel Aviv. The winners will receive a one-page advertisement in the popular business journal, Forbes Magazine, a strategy session with Koteret Public Relations and access to four industry research reports.

The conference was attended by local and foreign investors, who listened to ten-minute presentations by more than 40 start-ups at the show. The judges of the competition included leading Israeli venture capitalists.

The winning companies are: Zoomix, which won the software and IT award; Wisair, which won the communications award; UltraShape, which won the life sciences award; and Aspectus, which won in the homeland security category.
