Dozens of Iraqis have died in US and coalition operations in several Iraqi cities.
The protests took place in PA-controlled areas of Gaza, Judea and Samaria throughout the day yesterday. There were denouncements of American "massacres", "random killings" and "war crimes" in Iraq and expressions of support for the "steadfastness" of the Iraqi people under what was called American occupation.
In Ramallah, locale of PLO leader Yasser Arafat's headquarters, Arafat's Fatah faction, as well as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terrorist organizations collaborated in a demonstration of support for the Iraqi fight against US and coalition forces. The protesters called on Muslims and Arabs everywhere to show solidarity with the Iraqis, condemning the Arab silence in the face of "atrocities" by US troops in Iraq.
In PA-controlled Gaza, more than 150 women demonstrated on Tuesday in front of the United Nations Special Coordinator's Office in Gaza City. The women called on the UN Secretary General to bring an end to the American occupation of Iraq and to bring those American and coalition soldiers "involved in war crimes" to trial.
Official PA media reported that "leading resistance factions such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, praised the Iraqi people's resistance against the American occupation, and condemned the random killing of Iraqi civilians at the hands of the US-led occupation forces."
Islamic Jihad of Gaza issued a communique calling on the Iraqis to step up their attacks against American and coalition targets. Islamic Jihad praised the Iraqi "intifada", making explicit the link between what it called "American and Zionist terrorism in Iraq and Palestine."
PA officials, in contrast, kept nearly silent on the news from Iraq and refrained from criticizing the US at all.
