The United Talmud Torah School in St. Laurent, Montreal, was targeted in an anti-Semitic hate crime attack on Monday, the eve of Passover. No one was hurt in the firebomb attack, but the school library was heavily damaged by the resultant blaze. "The attack against a place of learning where young people study is unacceptable," stated Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. "The assault was not directed at the Jewish community of Montreal, but was rather an act of violence directed at all Canadians."

Just four weeks ago, B'Nai Brith Canada reported an increase in anti-Semitic incidents across Canada in 2003. Over 100 incidents of anti-Jewish violence, harassment and vandalism were registered in Quebec alone, and close to another 500 cases in the rest of Canada.
