The victim of the Friday night attack, Yaakov Zagha, is survived by his wife Esther, who immigrated to Israel from Argentina without her family, as well as five daughters, a son, parents, three brothers and two sisters. One of his brothers, Avshalom, also lives in the community of Avnei Heifetz.

Known as Kobi, he was described as a true patriot, a committed resident of Judea and Samaria, and one of the founders of Avnei Heifetz 14 years ago. He worked at Bank Mizrachi, and served in the army in the Givati Infantry Brigade. His brother-in-law Hillel Manne of Beit El told IsraelNN, "Kobi was a serious figure in the settlement enterprise, ever since he studied at the Nir Hesder Yeshiva in Kiryat Arba 20 years ago. He was known as a person who gave of himself. He delayed his plans to add on to his own house for several years because he lent money to needy people in his town." Kobi's nephew Yisachar, of the Hevron Hills community of Maon, added, "It was money he knew he would never get back."

Nina Manne of Beit El said about her murdered brother, "He saw everything in a positive light, a great optimist. He knew how to make others happy. He was a tzaddik (righteous person), and he died trying to defend his family."

A friend of Kobi, Yigal Dilmoni, told Arutz-7 today that Kobi recently told him, "We have to get another few hundred families to live in the Oniyah" - a reference to the large and empty area of Avnei Heifetz through which the murderous terrorist infiltrated.
