Elchanan Tannenbaum has been released from police custody after more than two months of questioning. He has been remanded to his sister's Herzliya home and is under house arrest.

The terms of Tannenbaum's release include: he may only leave his sister's house for medical reasons or to report for continued police questioning; he must limit his contacts according to a list provided by police; and he may not grant any media interviews.

Tannenbaum, who was held by the Hizbullah terrorist organization for more than three years, came home as part of the well-known hostages-for-prisoners swap of January this year. However, suspicions arose as to the crime-related circumstances under which Tannenbaum ended up in Hizbullah hands, and he was not forthcoming as to possible revelations of highly sensitive military information to which he was privy. As a result, Tannenbaum has been isolated and questioned by police ever since his return to Israel.
