A multi-count indictment was handed down this morning in the Haifa District Court against Eliran Golan and Alex Rabinovitch, charged with a series of bombing attacks on Arab targets, including four counts of attempted murder.

The targets were selected by Golan for "assisting terrorists", according to information obtained by police. The indictment also accuses Golan of establishing the Mador Echad organization in 2001 in order to perpetrate terror attacks against Arabs. A third suspect, Yevgeny Grossman, was ordered five days ago to remain under house arrest in his parent’s Ashdod home.

Golan, 22, a resident of Haifa, is suspected of placing nine bombs at Arab targets in Haifa over the past three years. One bomb was intended to damage a local mosque and another was planted under the vehicle of Knesset Member Issam Makhoul (Hadash-Ta'al). Makhoul's wife started the car, detonating the explosive, but she was uninjured. In three cases, a total of three persons were lightly injured. Police reported that Golan confessed to the attacks and that he had planned to target Arab MKs Ahmed Tibi and Azmi Bishara, as well.

A search of Eliran Golan's home in the N'vei Sha'anan neighborhood revealed 40 homemade bombs in various stages of completion, along with grenades, a mortar and other related items.

When brought to court to hear the charges against him, Eliran Golan told reporters, "I do not hate Arabs. I have many Arab friends, and they are probably at home watching this and becoming enraged. I don't know how things got to this point."
