MK Meir Porush (UTJ) has turned to Minister of Education Limor Livnat with a request that the Education Ministry end organized visits by Jewish students to mosques and churches.

Porush’s request come after students in a Jewish kindergarten went on a class trip to a Jaffa mosque and were asked to bow down on their knees by the Imam. The three and four-year-old children are students at a public school in Jaffa and were taking part in a field trip to the houses of worship of Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

During the children’s visit to the Mosque, they were asked to remove their shoes and bow down on the ground while receiving a lesson about the Koran. The Jaffa school is attended by Jews, Muslims and Christians and has instituted the field trip as a regular part of the curriculum. The school also celebrates the holidays of all three religions.

“This is outrageous,” wrote MK Porush to Minister Livnat, “in addition to the active targeting of Jewish schools by missionaries, we now see institutions of public education in the State of Israel injecting into the youth of its schools confused messages which lead to intermarriages and conversions of students later in life.”

In his letter, MK Porush went on to speak about the significance of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Passover. “Our rabbis, of blessed memory, tell us that the Jews were brought out of Egypt in the merit of four things – one of them being the Jews’ strict aversion of all aspects of other religions – their complete isolation.”

“I request to be informed,” concluded MK Porush, “of the concrete steps you plan to take in order to prevent this shocking phenomenon of Jewish children being brought on organized trips to Mosques and Churches.”
