Several Arabs from PLO-controlled areas who planned to carry out the mass-casualty attack were arrested in the center of Tel Aviv on March 2, following an alert that terrorists had infiltrated the city. The alert brought extra police and major traffic jams to Tel Aviv, especially near the central bus station in the south of the city on that day. In a separate release today, defense officials allowed publication that that two terrorists, 16 and 17-years-old, were planning to perpetrate suicide bombing attacks during the Purim holiday (7 & 8 March), in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The suicide bombing attacks were to take place in a Tel Aviv club and a Jerusalem restaurant or coffee house.



IDF forces wrapped up a tunnel searching operation and left southern Gaza last night. During the incursion, soldiers were met targeted with anti-tank rockets, automatic weapons fire, and bombs. There were no injuries to IDF troops. Local Arab sources report four fatalities. The force was unsuccessful in locating any tunnels, and the withdrawal was quickly hailed a victory by Hamas chief Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.



Arabs shot at a vehicle traveling north of Jerusalem near Shilo last night. The shooting occurred in the area known as Wadi Haramiya, the site of multiple fatal terror attacks. Last night’s assault resulted in no injuries. Another shooting attack took place some ten miles east of Netanya near Avnei Hafetz. There were no injuries.



In yet another attempt at murdering Israeli civilians, security forces found a bomb on the approach road to Itamar, located 25 miles east of Herziliya. The explosive device was detonated in a controlled blast, without injuries.



Arab terrorists are planning to commandeer a public bus and direct it to a PLO-controlled area where they hope to conduct negotiations for the release of hostages, according to a report in the daily Ma’ariv newspaper.



IDF forces operating in Judea and Samaria during the night succeeded in apprehending 17 terror suspects. Arrests were made in el-Aroub [north of Hevron], in Bethlehem, near and inside Ramallah, near Kalkilye, and in Shechem. Among the suspects in custody are Islamic Jihad and Fatah terrorists. An IDF force operating in Arafat-controlled Tul Karem was targeted by terrorist gunfire this morning. There were no injuries.



Police laboratory tests show that some of the weapons seized in the apartment of four hit-men from Belarus were obtained from the Palestinian Authority, Israel Radio reported.



In what has now become routine, anti-security-fence protesters held a rally which turned violent in the Modi’in area, midway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The mob began pelting security forces with large rocks and other objects. According to unconfirmed reports, three Arab residents of the village of Dir Kadis were injured by rubber bullets fired in response by security forces. There are no reported injuries to IDF troops.
