Israel has another chance to save the life of an Arab who helped her in time of need. The trial of Taher Jaber began yesterday in the PA, and he is accused of attempting to carry out the Israeli liquidation of a Fatah terrorist leader. The target, Abdel Karim Awis, was not killed in the attack, but two other Arabs did die. Ida Nudel, Yosef Mendlevitch, and Atty. Nitzana Darshan-Leitner have asked GSS head Avi Dichter to do everything he can to save Jaber\'s life. If previous PA precedent is followed, Jaber could be executed within a matter of days.
Six months ago, the Palestinian Authority executed two informants for Israel in front of cheering crowds of thousands. Leitner, who offered at the time to represent them in their trials free of charge, later criticized the PA\'s \"brutal justice system that completely disregards human rights,\" as well as \"civil rights organizations such as Amnesty International, Middle East Watch and B\'Tselem, which made no effort at all\" in the cases.
