Haaretz reports today that in light of growing opposition within the ranks of the Likud ministers, Prime Minister Sharon is beginning to shy away from uprooting Jewish towns in Samaria. It was reported yesterday that Gen. Giora Eiland, entrusted with preparing recommendations for the implementation of the withdrawal, has proposed a plan to destroy not only Gush Katif and other Jewish towns in Gaza, but also up to 20 more communities in Judea and Samaria.

The increasing opposition within the Likud has been a matter of concern for Sharon for a while. Arutz-7 reported on Wednesday that Transportation Minister Avigdor Lieberman said he is of the opinion that the majority of the Likud ministers oppose the unilateral withdrawal/expulsion plan. Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom himself, meeting with the Bush Administration emissaries today, does not support the program in its current format. Others known to be against are Ministers Landau, HaNegbi, Sheetrit and Sharansky.

Minister without Portfolio Gideon Ezra met yesterday with northern Shomron residents. After he warned them of the possibility that they may be uprooted from their homes, they responded that they would not be forced out of their homes alive.
