A Purim carnival will be held in Jerusalem's Machaneh Yehuda market area this afternoon, including musicians, dancing groups, and clowns. Jerusalem is celebrating the holiday today, a day later than most of the rest of the world, based on the fact that the Purim miracle and victory was completed in the walled city of Shushan a day later than in the rest of the Persian Empire (Esther 9).
Other Purim events in the capital today will be also held in the Israel Museum, the Biblical Zoo, and elsewhere. A special party will be held this afternoon for children of families struck by terrorism, at the Malcha Mall in Jerusalem. The children will be treated to pizza, ice cream, toys and a performance of a unique Purim play.
In addition, a large, public festive meal in honor of Purim will be held in the Rose Garden outside the Knesset, sponsored by leaders of Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. The Yesha representatives are holding a protest vigil at the site against the plan to uproot outposts and withdraw from Gaza.
Purim parades and carnivals were held in several cities yesterday, including Hevron, Nahariya and Ramat HaSharon. In Holon, tens of thousands people watched a Bible Parade, in which 4,000 participants marched through the streets dressed as various Biblical figures. The march included decorated trucks and cars, acrobats, crowds, musicians and more.
