Despite the difficulties involved, Aliyah (immigration to Israel) is still an ideal embraced and supported by the Jewish community. So reports Tehilla, the Union for Religious Aliyah, after organizing a well-attended farewell party this past Sunday at the Riverdale Jewish Center in New York to honor some ten community members who will be making Aliyah in the coming months. Tehilla, a non-political organization that provides support for prospective Olim (immigrants), reports that it has helped over 100 people who are making Aliyah this year, about half of whom are from the New York-New Jersey area. The North American Aliyah Center reports that the number of Olim from North America, and particularly the U.S., rose during the first five months of this year in comparison with last year.
