In a shootout this afternoon between IDF troops and terrorists in Bethlehem, four soldiers were wounded and one Hamas terrorist was killed. Magen David Adom officials report that two of the wounded soldiers are in serious condition, with one suffering wounds to his neck. They were taken to the trauma unit of Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital.

IDF forces operated in a Gaza neighborhood last night, pursuing three wanted terrorists - who, according to some reports, were no less than the regional commanders of Hamas, Fatah and Islamic Jihad. The three were in the midst of planning a joint attack when they were surprised by the IDF force, which surrounded their house. Although one Israeli soldier was moderately wounded from gunfire from within the house, the soldiers succeeded in their mission, killing the three terrorist leaders and possibly a fourth.

Elsewhere in Gaza, terrorists fired a Kassam rocket at a kibbutz in the western Negev, and opened fire at several other Israeli targets since last night. No one was hurt.

Two IDF soldiers were killed last night in a training accident in the Golan. It happened when a heavy tank-like armored personnel carrier backed into a jeep and crushed it. Two soldiers sitting in the front of the jeep were killed, and two sitting in the back went into shock. Eyewitnesses say that the jeep sunk into mud, in conditions of heavy fog and rain, and its low lights could not be seen. The larger vehicle should not have been traveling along the same route, however. Northern Commander Gen. Benny Ganz has established a committee to investigate the tragic incident.
