Likud MK Gilad Erdan says that uprooting Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza is illegal. Erdan, a lawyer, said that confiscating and destroying homes and towns is contrary to the residents' right to their property, which negates Basic Law: Human Dignity and Freedom.

The issue has come once again to the fore, following the Yesha Council's announcement on Tuesday night that aides of Prime Minister Sharon had offered them a deal: the destruction of "only" seven outlying Yesha communities, in exchange for a law banning further demolitions until a final agreement with the Palestinian Authority is signed. The Yesha Council rejected the deal outright, while Prime Minister Sharon took the trouble to respond personally, saying that he had no plans to legislate anything that would "tie the government's hands." He said nothing about the seven Yesha communities - namely, Kadim and Ganim in northern Shomron; Sa-Nur and Chomesh in central Shomron; and Morag, Kfar Darom and Netzarim in Gaza.

Yesha Council leaders met in the Knesset yesterday afternoon with 15 Likud Knesset Members, including Erdan, Ehud Yatom and Gila Gamliel. Yesha Council head Bentzy Lieberman said yesterday that the goal is to make it clear to the Prime Minister that he would remain without a government if he proposes such a plan. Erdan said that the issue of destroying Yesha towns must be brought to the Knesset for a vote.
