Ariel Sharon will depart for his first trip to Europe as Prime Minister this Wednesday. He will visit Germany and France, and will meet with their leaders. Sharon will not visit Belgium, the current holder of the rotating European Union presidency, as originally planned; legal proceedings against Sharon regarding the Sabra and Shatila massacres have been instituted in Belgium.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Sha’ul Mofaz has decided to shorten his week-long visit to the U.S. by two days, and will return on Wednesday. Military sources said that the present status of warfare, presumably both on the northern border and throughout Yesha, makes his presence in the region advisable.
