From the Egyptian singer who brought the Arab world the hysterical hit "Ana Bakra Isra'il ("I Hate Israel", later the title of a proposed movie), now comes "Kharittat Al-Tariq" ("Road Map").
Among other themes, like how America is an arm of Israel, the song blames America itself for the terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center: "Hey people, it was only a tower, and I swear by God that they are the ones who pulled it down."
The new hit song, performed by Sha'aban 'Abd Al-Raheem, "gives voice to widespread views in the Egyptian street regarding the September 11th events and the U.S.- Iraq standoff," according to the recent Cairo Times weekly. 'Abd Al-Raheem sings that the US purposely carried out the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington "to make people think that Arabs and Muslims are terrorists and were behind that disaster. Now the U.S. can do what it pleases to the Arab world since everyone thinks they are to blame," the Egyptian culture magazine detailed.
"The song talks about the Road Map and includes quotes from U.S. President George W. Bush about the plan's implementation," the Cairo Times reported, "The song goes on to describe how America is the spitting image of Israel and it carries out its desires, making the world into a 'jungle.'"
The song is part of the artist's new CD, to be released soon. In the meantime, the Egyptian magazine reported, "the Road Map song has been a success on the music scene. Abd Al-Raheem has been doing publicity for his new song by singing it at wedding parties and in TV interviews."
But 'Abd Al-Raheem is adding a new cut, according to Cairo Times, "a song dedicated to [Egyptian] Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher to show his sympathy for what happened in Al-Aqsa Mosque. He described the attack on Maher as 'irresponsible,' adding that 'the guy was trying to help the Palestinians but some of them humiliated him.'"
