A petition to the Supreme Court is currently preventing the army from uprooting yet another synagogue: Chazon David, just outside Kiryat Arba, below the Patriarchs Hill neighborhood. It was established in 2001 following the terrorist murders of David Cohen and Chezy Muallem nearby.
"Continued Jewish presence at the site has prevented further escalation of violence and terrorism in the area," Hevron spokesman David Wilder said, "and Arabs living in the vicinity have been quoted as saying that they have no objection to a 'holy place' at the site."
MK Eliezer Cohen (National Union) said today that the destruction of the synagogue in Tapuach on Tuesday was "anti-Semitic and racist." Cohen said, with some exaggeration, "They [the authorities] barely destroy any illegal Arab houses, unless it belongs to some shahid who killed dozens of Jews - yet yesterday they performed the anti-Semitic and racist act of destroying a synagogue in Tapuach."
