Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today signed orders for the uprooting of three additional outpost communities in the Shomron (Samaria). Added to Sharon’s list are Givat HaRoeh (near Eli in the Shomron), Yitzhar South and Mitzpei Yitzhar, otherwise known as Givat HaRavakim (Bachelors’ Hill).
Givat HaRoeh is home to 13 families and a number of single people. It is located on route 60 opposite the main gate into the town of Eli. Recently, construction of permanent homes on the site was stopped by the government when it was realized the prime minister marked it for destruction. Yitzhar South and Mitzpei Yitzhar are both adjacent to the Shomron community of Yitzhar, and are also home to families and single people.
Recently, the prime minister and defense minister issued demolition orders against other communities, including Migron (Benjamin Regional Council of the Shomron), Ginot Aryeh (part of Ofrah in the Shomron), Maon Farm (Hevron Hills), Hazon David (adjacent to Kiryat Arba), Shaked Farm (in the Shomron, also near Yitzhar), and Bat Ayin West.
None of the orders have been carried out to date. Orders against four of the outposts are on appeal before the High Court of Justice, and two others are currently before the IDF Central Region Command.
