The release from custody of Kasem Bargouti, the 14-year-old son of Tanzim leader Marwan Bargouti, continues to make waves. Following an Arutz-7 report on Friday that Bargouti Jnr. was caught throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers but was released shortly afterwards following pressure by his father, police sources in the Binyamin Region responded today. The police say that he was released only because the charges against him were not supported. However, Arutz-7\'s Kobi Sela continues to maintain, based on police and military sources, that the charges were well-founded. Duchifat Battalion soldiers, near Beit El, arrested him on Thursday after identifying him with certainty as having thrown rocks at them on several occasions over the past few weeks. Furthermore, the boy even admitted, after his arrest, to having done this.
The Yesha Council, sharply critical of the release, says that it could very well be that it was a 14-year-old boy, or one even younger, who threw the fatal rock that killed five-month-old Yehuda Chaim Shoham of Shilo three weeks ago. The Council also recalls that a few years ago, a hareidi minor was held in extended custody for throwing rocks on Bar Ilan Blvd. in Jerusalem.
