The northern military Gladiola and Dalia Outposts were attacked by Hizbullah mortar rockets and anti-tank missiles on Friday evening, resulting in the wounding of two soldiers, one seriously and one light. Following the attacks against the IDF border positions in the Shab’a Farm area, the air force retaliated against Hizbullah terrorist targets in southern Lebanon.

On Saturday, the governments of Syria and Lebanon issued a joint statement warning Israel against further retaliatory attacks, adding that Israel would bear the responsibility for what may result in the region as a result of additional military actions. Following the attack against Israel’s northern border on Friday, the IDF responded with artillery and later with helicopter gunships and fighter planes. Hizbullah targets close to Israel’s northern border were targeted.

The seriously wounded soldier was listed in moderate condition on Friday, but he took a turn for the worse during the night and doctors in Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center report his condition at this time as serious. Mortar fragments that landed at the Gladiola Outpost injured the soldier. The second soldier reportedly sustained very light injuries.

Following the initial IDF response on Friday, there has not been any other military comeback from Israel. After the last Hizbullah attack across the border, Israel attacked a Syrian radar position deep in Lebanon.

A senior aide to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon indicated that Israel holds Syria directly responsible for the attack, adding that it is obvious that Syrian President Bashar el-Assad gave Hizbullah the green light for the attack.
