El Al announced Wednesday that electronic ticketing will be an option for all passengers from now on, and not just for members of their frequent flyer’s club.
El Al vice-president of commercial and industry affairs Yoav Levy told Globes that he predicts electronic ticketing use would grow by 50% this year.
Electronic ticketing, or ‘e-tickets’ are issued via a computer, without a printed ticket being issued by El Al. The ticket record is stored in the airline's computer system until the passenger is given a boarding pass at the El Al check-in upon identity verification. Part of the attraction of e-tickets is that they obviate the need for passengers to visit a travel agent to pick up their tickets.
El Al, in a move to encourage the use of electronic ticketing, announced that all reservations by electronic ticketing will garner 20 bonus frequent-flyer points each way.
