Hundreds, and possibly thousands, of people are expected to take part in a festive walk around the Temple Mount gates this evening, following the fast of Asarah B'Tevet. The event, which is usually held at the beginning of every Jewish month, will begin at 6 PM at the Western Wall plaza.
Deputy Education Minister Tzvi Hendel and MK Uri Ariel issued a call to the hundreds of religious-Zionist schools and yeshivot to participate in the unique commemoration of the fast day. Asarah B'Tevet commemorates the beginning of the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem during the days of the First Temple, culminating with its destruction and the 70-year exile of the Jewish People from its land.
Tonight's event will include singing, dancing, musical instruments, reading aloud of Psalms, all "amidst a general atmosphere of excitement, uplifting and inspiration," said Hendel and Ariel. The event will be held in coordination with the security forces.
