According to Haifa University Professor Dr. Steven Plaut the constant reference in the media to the number of dead in the “Al-Aqsa Intifada” is part of the overall effort by the left wing to lead people to believe the “entire bloodbath was caused by Ariel Sharon going for a stroll on the Temple Mount in September 2000”.

Dr. Plaut insists the matter is more than a “technical mathematical debate” as to the number of victims of Arab terrorism. He explains that terrorism should be quantified since the famous handshake on the White House lawn – the signing of the Oslo Agreement by Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, and Yassir Arafat in 1993. This would make the number of murdered Israelis since the signing of the Oslo Agreement in terrorist assaults about 1,400, not 904 as is reported.

Plaut explains that more significant than the difference in the numbers is the realization that the cause of the ongoing bloodshed was not Sharon’s walk on the Mount but the entire Oslo process. Plaut stated that the ongoing bloodshed is in fact largely due to the importation of terrorists that took place leading up and continuing after the signing of the Oslo Agreement, and was continued by the arming of these terrorists which he states has resulted in the never-ending PA terror and its associated horrors. Plaut in fact places the blame of the current violence at the feet of those who brought about Oslo as well as those who supported it.

The number of people killed by PA terrorists in the five years immediately after the Oslo accord (256) was greater than the number killed in the 15 years preceding the agreement (216).

Gamla.org has compiled a thorough list of terrorist attacks from the signing of the Oslo Accords through January 2003.
