The Israel Electric Company northern branch workers union has decided to enlist in the cause of the Sieff Hospital in Tzfat (Safed). The union has donated $5,000 to the bypass-surgery department towards the purchase of a sorely-needed automatic syringe system. The workers have donated in the past to the hospital's children's ward and other departments.
Bezeq, Israel's only land-line phone company, invited 500 under-privileged children to see Chanukah plays last week - as it did last year. "Some 200,000 shows are performed for children on Chanukah," a Bezeq spokesman said, "but the tickets are very expensive. It was our aim to create some measure of equality among the children, at least in this area." Welfare department workers in central Israel distributed the tickets.
