At the Slovak Maple Open and Europa Kadett Cup tournament, held December 19-21 in Spiska Nova Ves (Slovakia), Israeli speed skater Denis Zaslavsky finished with a silver medal for his overall performance.

Zaslavsky took the gold, from among 25 skaters, in the 1,500 meter event, which qualified him for the 3,000 meter “skate-off” between the winners of three preceding races (500, 1,000 and 1,500 meter). He came in second in the “skate-off”, thus securing his silver medal.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Denis Zaslavsky, of Kiryat Shemona in the north, trains under the tutelage of his mother, Vera, and his father, Grigory, at the Canada Center in Metulla. Denis is a regular top ten skater, with several first place medals in preliminary races, in international competitions.

Next month, Zaslavsky will compete in the European Championships in the Netherlands.
