Likud MK Ehud Yatom, a former Sayeret Matkal member, said today that he had read of the above letter with shock; "It was hard to accept that the plague of desertion had reached even that heroic unit," he said. "I will demand that they be tried and thrown out of the army... Letters of this nature are ammunition for our enemies; I won't be surprised if [Hizbullah leader] Nasrallah mentions it and uses it in one of his upcoming speeches."

MK Yatom also explained why he so strongly objects to the Prime Minister's plan to unilaterally withdraw and destroy Jewish towns: "I knew when I was chosen to be a Knesset Member of the Likud that Prime Minister Sharon would lead us to a Palestinian state and possibly even to some painful uprootings of Yesha towns - but only in the framework of an agreement. I never imagined that this would be done unilaterally without receiving in return the basic demand of the Road Map, namely, the PA's fighting against terrorism. I will vote against these plans."
