The Upper Nazareth District Court handed down a 13-year sentence for Sham Shamas, 22, a resident of the Golan Heights. Sham was convicted of assisting the Hizbullah terrorist organization in the planned abduction of a soldier. The soldier was to have been brought to Syria and used as a negotiating pawn towards the release of terrorists held in Israeli jails. Two other defendants involved in the case received lesser sentences.
