Outgoing Attorney-General Elyakim Rubinstein met yesterday with State Prosecutor Edna Arbel, who is set to take his place next month until his successor can be found, and with Foreign Ministry and IDF legal experts. On the agenda: Israeli preparations for the trial against Saddam Hussein.

Defense Minister Mofaz and Justice Minister Lapid said yesterday that Israel should join the prosecution against Saddam Hussein, mentioning Iraq's Scud missile attacks on Israel in 1991, as well as the Saddam regime's support for Palestinian suicide bombings. During the three years of the PA-initiated Oslo War, Hussein sent millions of dollars to the PA-controlled territories, including many thousands of dollars to the families of suicide bombers. Israel has reportedly sought over $1 billion from Iraq in compensation for Scud missile damages, including $103 million for material damages and $903 million for increased defense costs.
