This week marked the Second International Cairo Conference sponsored by the International Campaign Against U.S. and Zionist Occupations (ICAUZO), reported the Palestinian Authority’s IPC website. The Conference theme was “Yes to Resistance in Iraq & Palestine, No to Capitalist Globalization and U.S. Hegemony”.
It was addressed by such well-known individuals as former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark, former UK minister and Labour MP Tony Benn and the former Humanitarian Coordinator with the United Nations in Iraq, Dennis Halliday, as well as Osama Hamdan, representing the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. More than 1,000 Egyptians and 150 others from 30 different countries attended the event, according to the IPC report.
The website reported on remarks delivered by Jalal Aref, the chief of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, which provided the hall for the event: Aref “addressed participants by saying that the conference banner is an alarm to the live and conscious people to confront the American and Zionist global domination and subjugation that is detriment of the lives of the majority of the world's people under the American fascism and extremism. He also commended the Al-Aqsa Intifada, which truly exposed to the entire world the aggressive militarism which the Palestinian people face today.”
Tony Benn “said that history will inscribe the deadly bloody face of both Sharon and Bush. ...[The] setting forth of the ‘Road Map’ peace plan is to distract the world’s attention regarding... Iraq.” Ramsey Clark reportedly “described the current Iraqi and Palestinian peoples' situations as getting worse than the past decades, accusing the American administration of pursuing antagonist strategy against the world’s nations.” And Dennis Halliday “piercingly rebuked the United States, confirming that it... monopolizes political, economic and military power within the framework of capitalist globalization to dominate the world.”
The Hamas representative “focused on the effective necessity to boycott the Israeli commodities and refusal of normalization with Zionist entity,” according to the IPC report.
