The intensive terror alert imposed on the area of Rosh HaAyin on Monday morning bore fruit. Two terrorists, frustrated in their attempt to enter an Israeli city and blow themselves up amidst a crowd of Jews, were caught as they were tried to backtrack and escape back into PA-controlled territory.
The two terrorists were aided in their murderous designs by a 40-year-old pregnant Arab mother of seven, who transported the 8-kilogram explosives vest.
The IDF announced that early Monday morning, Saliman Abu Ruis, 20, of the Balata slums in Shechem, and his counterpart Tzaber Abu Seris, a 37-year old father of seven from Shechem, set out to carry out a suicide bombing in Rosh HaAyin. The two are members of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
The men traveled together through the Kafr Kassam checkpoint into pre-'67 Israel, while Latifa Abu Doar, with three of her seven children, drove in a separate car carrying the explosives. The assumption was that pregnant women with children do not arouse as much suspicion among the soldiers as do young Arab men. After passing the checkpoint, the woman accompanied the terrorists by foot through another IDF checkpoint, and then handed the explosives belt over to Abu Ruis, the would-be suicide bomber. She then turned around and returned to Shechem.
Abu Ruis and Abu Seris walked toward the town of Rosh HaAyin, but turned back when they realized that they could not hope to pass through the heightened security forces. The two terrorists decided to hide the explosive belt, and flee to the Arab village of Hablah. They were arrested by security forces near Kalkilye and taken into Shabak (General Security Service) custody. Overnight, their female accomplice was arrested, and the explosives vest was discovered this morning.
Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler noted that the discovery of the ticking timebomb terrorist cell was enabled due to the arrest and interrogation of several terrorists on Sunday night.
