Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, will grant the Righteous Gentile Award tomorrow to a Brazilian diplomat who saved hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust. The man, the late Luiz Martins de Souza Dantas, is only the second Brazilian to be so honored. He enabled hundreds of Jews to escape occupied France by granting them visas according to his own "interpretation" of the anti-Semitic immigration policies of his home country. In addition, he forged the dates of the granting of the visas.
